Statement

Hey there! My name is Nikki Bennett, and I'm a landscape artist and writer living in the Pacific Northwest.

Biography

I'm a wanderer. I started out life on the east coast, moved to Japan for seven years during some sort of midlife crisis, and now reside with my artist hubby, Steve, in the Pacific Northwest. Besides painting, I am a write, and editor. I have published several young adult books and I have also created book covers for both my books and clients.

I paint in several mediums, but discovered gouache last year and I've focused on this medium ever since. I began using this medium for a book cover I was working on; the client wanted a watercolor-type look, but I've always been frustrated with watercolors because I like painting with more opaque colors. Then I discovered gouache, and wow! It's like painting with the blendability of oils but the feel of watercolors, and it's great for plein air painting. So I'm concentrating on that, and the current works you will see on this site are allgouache paintings. I use either watercolor paper or acrylic canvasboard.
